Sunday at Noon ~ Level One Hatha Yoga

4.17.11 Satya - Truthfulness

Truthfulness should be observed in thought, word, and deed.  Satya is seeing and reporting things as they are, not how we'd like them to be.   This means that our words should correlate to our actions and thoughts.  Truth is well anchored and umcomplicated.  "In order to perfect truthfulness, yogis need patience to observe the ultimate outcome of acts, clarity to make the proper assessment of their outcome, and accurate recall not to forget the lessons of experience."  (Guruji Reverend Jaganath Carrera, Inside The Yoga Sutras, p.l32)  Patience, Clarity, and Good Memory.

Test Satya against Ahimsa (harmlessness).  Do your words and actions bring harm or harmony?  Determine if the desire to act or speak is motivated by an interest in the welfare of others or by a need to vent our frustrations onto another or punish someone with whom we have problems.  Even truthful words, if they cause harm to another should not be spoken.  But if by not speaking the truth you will cause more harm to another later, it is best to be truthful to yourself.  Consider an appropriate approach.  A relationship built on truthfulness brings trust.  Today we will do a few partner poses to build trust based on clear and truthful communication.

Sequence:  In Dandasana (staff pose) Pavanmuktasana (point and flex toes, ankles circles) [Who has shoulder or knee pain?  This warm-up series helps relieve joint pain by sending synovial fluid to the joints.  Synovial fluid greases the joints and when the system becomes too acidic, then calcium deposits form and the synovial fluid does not reach the joints.  So this series is awakening the meridians in the feet to make all movement more accessible.] Urdhva Hastasana (upward palms facing pose), simple spinal twist, neck circles, shoulder rolls, cat/cow, table balance with partner, Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward facing dog) > plank 3x, Uttanasana (standing forward bend), Tadasana (mountain pose), Malasana (squat pose) with partner 3x, Utkatasana (chair pose) at wall and on mat > Tadasana > Ardha Uttanasana 3x. Surya Namaskara (sun salutations) with Ashtangasana (eight pointed pose).  Bhujangasana (cobra pose) 3x, Ashtangasana > Balasana (child's pose) 3x.  Anantasana (Vishnu pose - reclining on side, one leg up), Bharadvajasana (sage twist), Ardha Matsyendrasana (half Lord of the fishes pose), Dandasana, Upavista Konasana (wide legged angle pose) with partners, Parsva Upavista Konasana (sideways wide legged angle pose), Apanasana (yoga hug - knees to chest), Savasana (final relaxation pose) with guided relaxation.  Played the heart chakra quartz crystal singing bowl coming out of Savasana.

"In order to perfect truthfulness, yogis need patience to observe the ultimate outcome of acts, clarity to make the proper assessment of their outcome, and accurate recall not to forget the lessons of experience." (Guruji Reverend Jaganath Carrera, Inside The Yoga Sutras, p.l32)

Ending peace chants:
Asaato Maa Sad Gamaya Tamaso Maa Jyotir Gamaya Mrityor Maa Amritam Gamaya
Lead us from unreal to Real.  Lead us from darkness to the Light.
Lead us from the fear of death, to the knowledge of Immortality.
OM Shanti, Shanti, Shanti!
Lokaah Samastaah Sukhino Bhavantu
May the entire universe be filled with Peace and Joy, Love and Light.
